Esme Higgs: “Building an equestrian social network starts with consistency and passion…”

Esme Higgs (aka This Esme) is one of the biggest influencers in the equestrian world – with 730,000 subscribers and over 100 million views on her YouTube channel, as well as over 260,000 followers on Instagram and 412,000 followers on TikTok .

What are the steps to build and grow a successful equestrian social media network?

I think one of the most important things is consistency. I spent three years uploading to YouTube once a week without earning a penny or thinking it was my job. I did it because I loved it and was always so excited to come home on the weekends and make a video. Many people try to make YouTube but after a few months they realize it’s hard work and give up. I think the main elements for success are consistency, good quality content, being yourself, and being original.

Which runners do you follow and who do you think has the most impact with their social network?

I really enjoy watching Caroline Breen’s stories. They show behind the scenes of her life – many top pilots only share content from the shows, but she shares her dogs, vegetable garden and other things that pilots don’t usually see.

Which of the four Majors that make up the rolex The Grand Slam is your favorite?

CHIO Aachen – I’m going there for the first time this year and I’m so excited! It looks amazing and I’m sure I’m going to have the best time!

What’s your favorite part of the job?

I think I have to say all the amazing people I’ve met and the amazing stories I’ve heard. I work with amazing charities such as Brookes and World Horse Welfare which is a truly amazing experience. Also being able to be with my horses and work with horses is a dream come true for me.
