Khazali makes his presence felt on “Passion Controller”

Khazali is the next name you need to know in UK electro soul and R&B. The North West London singer and producer grew up inspired by acts like Little Dragon and Sbtrkt, and his evocative delivery resembles the velvety vibe of Sampha.

On the new “Passion Controller”, the second single from his upcoming EP The rush (out March 11 on Kitsuné), Khazali brings home an aesthetic he’s been refining over the past two years. Touched by house strings and electro noise, the track proves a fluid canvas for Khazali to wash away with her shimmering vocals. The melody is a flowing groove that’s easy to hold on to – a good choice for the dance floor and the afterparty. Speaking about his upcoming debut in a statement, Khazali shared a glimpse of his process:

“My second EP, The rush, that’s what happened when I took four dream journal entries and turned them into a full-fledged pop universe – complete with colors, characters, and story. It follows a Californian couple, Tony and Lennie, and their rise and fall through love and life.

Although what you’ll hear is fresh AF, I’m proud to say that my EP drew inspiration from the people I look up to to help shape its overall sound. Expect to hear allusions to bands I listened to growing up; Metronomy, Little Dragon and The xx, as well as relatively recently discovered pop like Dua Lipa, Arlo Parks and Alfie Templeman.
